How does godly singleness put sexual desire in its proper place?

June 30, 2020 by neal.hardin1@gmail.com Leave a Comment

Photo by saeed mhmdi on Unsplash A young man who is a friend of mine texted me a very insightful question concerning the sermon that I gave on singleness. It got so many of my creative juices flowing (as well as the fact that my answer started to become too long to text) that I decided to turn it into the blog post you see here. Below is his question as well as my response. Question: How does singleness put sexual desire in its proper place without rejecting sex as God's creation? This is an interesting point of tension. As a single person living in accordance with God's commands, you will not get to experience the goodness of sex unless you eventually get married. Yet, you can still see that sex is a good part of God's creation. So, how should you respond to sexual desire in your [Read more...]

3 ways to remain content during our time at home

June 29, 2020 by neal.hardin1@gmail.com Leave a Comment

I recently wrote and article for the ERLC on how to remain content during this pandemic when so many things which comfort us have been taken away. It’s been two months now that most, if not all of us, have been under some kind of stay-at-home order or quarantine due to COVID-19. Though many states are starting to slowly loosen some restrictions, our circumstances will probably not return to the ‘normal’ we once knew anytime soon. Our lives have been turned upside down with the many changes that suddenly came upon our country. Whether it has to do with jobs changing or being lost, kids being home from school, not being able to meet together at church, or not being able to see friends or family, these changes have been hard. For some, this has probably been one of the hardest [Read more...]

How should Christians engage with their unbelieving neighbors during COVID-19?

June 29, 2020 by neal.hardin1@gmail.com Leave a Comment

I recently wrote an article for the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission on how we can love and serve our unbelieving neighbors during the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 outbreak is without doubt a culture-defining moment in our present time. Much of our society and our routines have become uprooted. For Christians, we can tangibly see this in how we have changed meeting together with our local church bodies. Much of our interaction with one another has moved online for the time being. These things are no less true for our unbelieving neighbors. The same inconveniences that are affecting us are affecting them too, whether that’s having children at home unexpectedly, losing a job or being put on leave, not being able to interact with friends and family, going to the grocery store and [Read more...]

Bostock v. Clayton County and the Meaning of “Sex”

June 29, 2020 by neal.hardin1@gmail.com Leave a Comment

Photo by Matt Popovich on Unsplash On June 15, 2020, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in Bostock v. Clayton County that protections for discrimination on the basis of "sex" in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 also extends to sexual orientation and gender identity. Justice Neil Gorsuch authored the opinion, joined by Chief Justice Roberts and Justices Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan. Justice Alito filed a dissenting opinion joined by Justice Thomas. Justice Kavanaugh authored a separate dissent. What was the Court's reasoning? I read the majority opinion and both dissents. (You can find them here.) Everyone agreed that the original wording of "sex" in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 referred to one's biological sex. So what was the Court's reasoning in including sexual [Read more...]

Resources on Race, Racism, and Racial Reconciliation

June 8, 2020 by neal.hardin1@gmail.com Leave a Comment

As our nation reels from the deaths of George Floyd and Ahmaud Arbery and the subsequent protests, riots, looting, civil unrest, and general angst, I've been watching and gathering various resources on how to address justice, race, racism, and racial reconciliation from a Christian perspective. These are some of the things I have found most helpful. Some of these I agree with wholeheartedly. Others, I don't fully agree with but found helpful in trying to understand various perspectives. I hope they can be of benefit to you as well. *Note: I may add other resources to this page as I come across them. Videos https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A14THPoc4-4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYQ5J99rc0s Make sure you listen to all 4 parts of the EV Hill sermon below. It's well [Read more...]
