One of these days, I will write my own “position paper” or “statement” on issues related to sexuality, given how much it has affected my life and how much I blog about it.
First check out this article that I wrote which will give you a very high-level view of what I believe: Gender, Marriage, and Sex: A Short Summary of What the Bible Teaches
Next, I recommend an article on the Gospel Coalition called “12 Statements on Human Sexuality.” They are taken from the Forty-Seventh General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in America Ad Interim Committee on Human Sexuality. They commissioned a report to address a wide variety of topics pertaining to homosexuality and same-sex attractions including:
- Marriage
- Image of God
- Original Sin
- Desire
- Concupiscence
- Temptation
- Sanctification
- Impeccability
- Identity
- Language
- Friendship
- Repentance and Hope
It also includes a few essays which delve into a number of these issues in greater detail.
I was surprised at how much I agreed with the statements in this document. Normally, position papers like these will tend to be good on some points but iffy or flat-out bad on others, but with this, I found myself nodding and saying “Amen” pretty much every step of the way. Until I take the time to actually write out my own, I will be referring people to this document. It is biblically faithful, pastoral, and addresses many relevant issues of our time connected with homosexuality and same-sex attractions.
The webpage to the report can be found here. The actual report itself can be found here. It would be worth your while to take the time to read it.
